Cityscapes_AI is the continuation of a series of long-term architectural utopias. The first >Cityspaces were created as an attempt at an experimentally developed cubist photographic equivalent. Photographs of architecture were ‘scanned’ analogously using the methods of “chance” and ‘overlap’. The result of this long-term experimental work was a series of images of cubist deconstructed architecture.
AI image generators have now been freely available for several years. For this work, I enter the cubist architectural works created over the years into the programme as inspiration for the AI software. To do this, a corresponding prompt (text command) must be entered – the results are astonishing.
AI image generators have a problem with abstraction. The software cannot do anything other than construct; it does not understand the concept of deconstruction. This results in astonishing, fictional architectural utopias that could possibly be built under certain circumstances. -
