NO MAN-S LAND
Multimedia-work about the former Yugoslavia
The installation “No man’s land” shows the absurdity of war on the basis of the conflicts in former Yugoslavia. The Inspiration for this installation was from the stage-like film “no man’s land” by Danis Tanovic as well as traveling trough the former war zones.
The installation has got three parts.
The first part consists of depictions of tourists. The tourists are caught in the moment of taking pictures of an attraction. The second part of the installation consists of large-scale black and white architectural images of different deserted buildings in the Yugoslavian countryside. These buildings are more ruins than anything else and seem eerie, surreal. They also show the Yugoslavian idea of social modernism in architecture. The sound piece connects the two first parts of the installation aesthetically as well as thematically. The viewer can hear different monologues and dialogues from the movie “No man´s land” that are played randomly.
